    The world’s only wooden double helix architecture.

    This temple was named after its unique shaped building resembling a turban shell (sazae in Japanese). Due to its double helix structure, the visitors going up the stairs never meet the other visitors coming down from the top. The unique architecture is believed to have originated from a design by Leonardo da Vinci or a Buddhist priest who received a divine revelation in a dream.     While visiting Mt. Hakkoda (Hakkoda Mountain Range), a ride on the Hakkoda Ropeway is highly recommended. Witnessing the breathtaking landscapes which change from season to season is truly unforgettable. The best time to view the autumn foliage is from late-September through mid-October. The summit area which can be reached within 10 mins on the ropeway also has abundant alpine plants. Visitors can enjoy the various levels of trekking courses varying from the 30-min easy walking path to the more advanced 4-hour trekking course.

    The Resort-Shirakami is a limited stop rapid train running 147.2km between Aomori prefecture and Akita prefecture. Due to the stunning scenery that can be enjoyed on board, visitors come from all over Japan to travel on this train. With the bluest Japanese sea on the right and the world heritage Shirakami Sanchi mountain range on the left, revel in the incredible scenery between Akita prefecture and Aomori prefecture.     Traditional crafts which last for a lifetime

    The culture of ironware making in Morioka prefecture developed during the Edo period, along with the culture of tea ceremony. Due to its refined production, the Nanbu Tekki ironware became very popular across Japan. It is said that they are so polished and complete that they last for a lifetime. At the Iwachu Casting Work Museum, you can observe how the ironware products are produced by local artisans.
